Reiki Teachers

Monday, December 28th, 2009

If you are looking for information on Reiki teachers, it probably means that you are either looking for a Reiki teacher or intending to become a one (or both). So let me address each possibility one at a time.  Reiki Teachers

Firstly, if you are looking for a Reiki teacher, what would you do? Reiki teachers are those who have attained the title of Reiki Master (which is what they are known as). These people have undergone all levels of Reiki training successfully and are eligible to initiate others into the practice of Reiki. Coming under the tutelage of a Reiki Master can either be done by joining his class (which most likely is in a Reiki school) or engaging him to train you personally. Either case, here are some of the things to look for when considering which Reiki Master to appoint as your tutor.

The Reiki Master must be one who is suitably qualified and currently practicing Reiki. Ask him to show you his certificate. His certificate should state a level of 3B or say that the holder is a Reiki Master Teacher. Anyone with some basic Reiki knowledge can pose as a Reiki Master, so it’s important to ask for certification. Furthermore, it is important that the Reiki Master be an ongoing practitioner so ask him whether he regularly practices Reiki himself.

Make sure you are comfortable with the Reiki Master’s class. Visit the school if possible before signing up. Look at the environment. Ask if it is possible for you to sit into one of his classes. If that is not possible, at least ask the Reiki Master about how he conducts his classes. The Reiki method of training involves teaching and attunement, which is the act of transferring the ability to channel Reiki energy from Master to student. Some Reiki Masters give hands-on practice to students so that they gain more confidence in using the Reiki techniques. Some only give an attunement after teaching. It is better to learn under a system that involves hands-on training. Reiki Healer

Evaluate the compatibility between yourself and the Reiki Master. Do you both share the same views or convictions on Reiki? Are there conflicts between your religious beliefs? Reiki depends a lot on your personal beliefs thus if what the Reiki Master teaches goes against your own personal convictions, then it would be hard for any attunement to take place.

Finally, ask for referrals from previous students. A Reiki Master with a good track record is worth learning under.

Now if you intend to become a Reiki Master Teacher yourself, the requirements are that you successfully undergo the complete Reiki course. The final level is the one where you are trained to attain Master status. Some schools have more stringent requirements than others when it comes to this more advanced level, so choose one which suits you. In some schools you may be required to complete an apprenticeship or stay in the school’s boarding facilities. Others may require you to detoxify your body or deny yourself certain things like entertainment or rich foods.

An alternative to enrolling into a school would be to take up an online course on Reiki. There are advantages to this such as flexibility of time, learning from home and continual updates and tips after the course has ended.  Reiki Masters

Whether you choose to enroll into a class or take up a course online, your first step in becoming a Reiki Master is to get trained in Reiki.

How to make Reiki more powerful

Monday, December 28th, 2009

There are millions of people in the world who have been attuned to Reiki

And there are probably thousands of people who practice it as healers every day

We hear about different levels of proficiency and power as Reiki is divided up into different levels from level one , two and Masters level, and we are told that the band of reiki energy we receive and then can channel to other people increases as we learn new symbols and take in more energy.

I believe that this is so but I think we are missing out on one of the best tools to fully develop and open Up to the power of reiki .

My take on it is thus, I believe that reiki energy does flow through us from the universal love energy surrounding us and it makes its way into our clients

I believe that “flow” here is the operative word and when we are blocked in some way it will impede flow of this energy Through us and into our client

I believe that if we are blocked emotionally that the reiki energy will stay in our body mind, trying to heal us and only some of it will flow to our client

The key then to leting this energy flow through us would be to experience our emotions as they arise and breath with them as they dissapate

In so doing we free up space and create a hollowness that will naturally fill up with peace.

This peace is in my view the place where Reiki can flow through and be directed powerfully into our clients.

I wish you peace

Blending Eastern and Western Reiki

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

Even though Reiki was first developed in 1926, we are still discovering new depths of the spiritual practice. In fact, many startling revelations have been uncovered over the last two decades alone, which have cast new light on the methodology widely adopted in the West. The practice was invented in Japan. By the time it had finally reached the U.S., its founder had long since passed away. This created a dynamic in which the original teachings were modified to fit a western culture.
This article will explore the differences between Eastern (or, Japanese) and Western (or, Occidental) Reiki. I’ll explain the early influence of a woman named Hawayo Takata as the spiritual practice spread throughout the U.S. We’ll also revisit some of the original teachings of its founder, Mikao Usui.
The Influence Of Hawayo Takata
For much of the twentieth century, the West’s access to Japan was very limited. As a result, the U.S. had only a rudimentary understanding about the original teachings of Reiki, which remained within Japan until the 1970s. A woman named Hawayo Hiromi Takata brought the practice to the U.S. after having been trained by Chujiro Hayashi. Hayashi was a student of the founder, Usui. He transformed Usui’s teachings into a rigidly simplistic set of rules that emphasized physical healing over spiritual growth. This is the version that Takata introduced to the West.
The style offered by Takata was positioned as an unchanged methodology. That is, the methods she taught were billed as entirely consistent with the founder’s original methods. For years, nobody suspected the claim. However, when Japan and its culture became easier to access, it was discovered that the style of Reiki that was spreading throughout the West was radically different than Usui’s approach.
Like Hayashi, Takata emphasized the memorization of a codified set of rules. Every person who received healing was treated with the same set of techniques, including established hand positions. While her methodology successfully standardized the practice, there were inherent limitations. First, it did not allow flexibility for each client’s unique needs. Nor did the standardization encourage students to expand their understanding of the methodology. Reiki practitioners have since learned that there is enormous power in experimenting with different systems and channeling energy through those systems.
Rediscovering Mikao Usui’s Approach
Mikao Usui’s approach to the methodology is far different than the style taught throughout the West by Takata. His method did not emphasize memorizing one distinct set of hand positions to be used to treat each person. Instead, his approach was more intuitive; he trained his followers to “listen” to the energy and adjust their hand positioning accordingly. He also taught Byosen scanning, a technique in which the practitioner learned to determine areas in need of healing through sensations in the hands.
Usui also incorporated a number of other methods under his broader Reiki system. These included Gassho meditation, Gyoshi-ho, and Koki-ho, all of which allowed students to further control the energy.
East Versus West
Initially, because Japanese and Western styles of Reiki are so dramatically different from each other, it seems logical to select one or the other. However, both strains of the practice have immense value to an astute practitioner. Both cater to disparate concepts, but both also form a similar framework. Takata’s style emphasizes a linear approach. Usui’s style highlights an approach based on the student’s intuition. The ideal system integrates the best of both styles.
Reiki continues to evolve as we learn new things about the practice. In the West, there are already dozens of systems that underscore different procedures and concepts. It’s important to remember that each person’s needs are unique. To that end, it is more important to apply systems that fit the need rather than rigidly sticking to one of them.

Strengthening the Connection With Reiki and Meditation

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

People who are just beginning to learn how to use Reiki to heal themselves and others can gain practical momentum through meditation. Regardless of whether you’re earning your first degree or have already become a Master after graduating from a third degree course, meditating pushes you to the next plateau. In fact, many practitioners who have faithfully adhered to the practice’s underlying principles claim they began to see a new level of progress only after meditating regularly.
Below, we’ll explore the ways in which finding quiet and solitude on a regular basis can strengthen the connection you feel with the Reiki energy. I’ll explain the fundamentals of meditation and how you train yourself to schedule time for it. I’ll also describe a 3-week program that you can use to contemplate your goals and seek answers.
What Does It Mean To Meditate?
Many people confuse prayer with meditation. It’s worth clarifying the difference. Prayer is speaking with God. To meditate is to embark on something entirely different. It is the act of quieting your mind and listening to what God has to tell you. Many Reiki practitioners prefer to begin each day by meditating on how they should use the universal energy into which they tap.
But, it’s a mistake to think that meditating must be done according to a schedule. In truth, many of the most revelatory moments are experienced during spontaneous meditation. A lot of Reiki devotees find themselves tapping into hidden stores of spirituality even while doing mundane things like driving, washing the dishes, or exercising. The key is to appreciate the meaning behind meditation and how it fortifies your connection with the Reiki energy.
Finding The Time
There will always be reasons to procrastinate meditating. Our lives are busier than ever and time is a valuable commodity. It’s too easy to keep telling yourself that you’ll meditate later in the day after you’ve accomplished everything on your “to do” list. But, that seldom happens. Other things will continue getting in the way.
This is one of the reasons why many Reiki Masters devote time during the early morning to their meditation. They realize that spending time alone and communing with God is critical to being able to focus on their spiritual growth. In doing so, they gain a better understanding about the healing nature of Reiki and the relationship they share with the universe.
A 3-Week Program To Strengthen The Connection
To be sure, there are many approaches to developing the habit of meditation. The program that follows is used by many practitioners because it helps them build the habit while strengthening their focus and spiritual empowerment. It is a 3-week process through which you can open your mind to your connection with the universe’s healing energy.
Week 1 – During the first week, you’ll concentrate on the Usui symbol of power. Each day will start with a specific question. Find a quiet, secluded place and meditate on the symbol for 20 minutes. Keep a small legal pad nearby to write down any notes that form in your mind during your session. They can include words or symbols. It is not important that you understand your notes; rather, it is important that you record them.
Week 2 – The second week will focus on the mental and emotional symbols of Usui. Each day will begin with another question. As before, meditate on the symbols for 20 minutes in a secluded area where you will not be disturbed. Keep your legal pad nearby and record any thoughts or images that appear in your mind.
Week 3 – The last week focuses on the distant healing symbol of Usui. You’ll spend the entire week meditating on this symbol for 20 minutes each day. Write down any notes on your legal pad.
Ideally, the above program should be used by students and practitioners who have passed the second degree of training. Those who have become Reiki Masters can add to the program by including additional symbols. Remember, the first step is building the habit. Only then can you truly connect with the universe and explore that connection with the Reiki energy.

Seeking True Happiness by Learning and Practicing Reiki

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

Most students of Reiki only consider the spiritual system in the context of its healing power. To be sure, there are significant health benefits for those who receive treatment. This is the reason many of the techniques are practiced in hospitals throughout the country. Under the surface, however, there is a treasure trove of opportunity for devotees to experience immense personal joy and happiness.
Too often, advocates of the practice treat others while ignoring their own needs. Even as their patients experience breakthroughs in their physical and mental ailments, those who perform the healing are nearly overwhelmed by their own. It does not need to be this way. In fact, treating others effectively requires the healer to enjoy some level of happiness. Mikao Usui, the Father of Reiki, was an ardent believer in this concept. He even called the spiritual system “the secret art of inviting happiness.”
So, it is undeniable that students should be seeking their own personal joy through learning and practicing Reiki. The question is, how can they do so? This article will explore the issue by looking at the critical roles of self-focus and ongoing affirmation.
Focusing On Yourself
Tapping into the spiritual energy of the universe enables Reiki practitioners to treat the physical and emotional ailments of others. Thousands of accounts of healings that have successfully alleviated medical conditions and mental imbalances attest to this. If the universal energy can be harnessed to treat others, does it not also follow that it can be used to heal yourself?
I’m often surprised by the number of advocates who have themselves become Masters, yet focus little time on pursuing their own happiness. Many seem to believe their psychic, emotional, and intuitive abilities should be focused solely on the treatment of others. While that goal is noble, it is imprudent. Healing others is most effective when the healer is happy. And that happiness is achieved by performing Reiki on yourself.
Affirmation Throughout The Day
Nearly all practitioners – whether Masters or beginning students – want to experience joy within their lives. Oddly, while they have immediate access to the divine energy, few take advantage of it for their own needs. The first step toward beginning to perform Reiki on yourself is by affirming your pursuit of happiness.
Say to yourself, “I wish for the Divine energy to wash through me so that I may express my joy.” Make this exclamation a part of your daily meditation. Spend several minutes saying it over and over, focusing on the areas in your life that require healing. Do this throughout the day to strengthen the connection between your mind, body, and the divine life energy of the universe. You’ll discover that your emotional stress declines, your aches and pains grow less pronounced, and your mood lifts.
The Seeds Of Physical And Mental Health
When you affirm your pursuit of true inner happiness, you might notice negative emotions rising to the forefront of your mind. Don’t suppress them. This is an opportunity to dispel them with Reiki energy and to enjoy healing. Let them emerge. You’ll find that they evaporate as you focus the spiritual energy of the universe on those areas of your life.
As you begin to experience new levels of joy, you’ll also experience several side benefits. You’ll be more productive throughout your day because you’re unencumbered by negative thoughts. You’ll also be more creative as your mind explores further than before, unhampered by fear. These are the seeds of physical and mental health. It begins with performing Reiki on yourself and realizing that your happiness is the lever that allows you to treat others.

Improving the Results of Your Reiki Treatments

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

When treating others with Reiki, there will be times during which you notice that your results are inconsistent. During some sessions, the flow of spiritual energy is powerful and clients enjoy healing in multiple areas of their lives. Other sessions yield less inspired results; the energy’s strength may seem inhibited as if something is blocking or interfering with it. The problem is usually due to lack of preparation and a disorganized process.
In this article, I’ll explain how you can enhance the environment in which you intend to deliver treatment to your clients. By optimizing your environment, you’ll produce better results for yourself and others. I’ll also describe how Reiki energy can flow of its own accord (though your direct involvement is always valuable). Lastly, we’ll take a closer look at the advantages you’ll enjoy by integrating meditation into your treatment process.
Optimize Your Environment
Before a client arrives, step within the room in which you intend to perform healing. Note the temperature. If it is too high or low, adjust it. If the environment seems stuffy, open a window to allow air to flow through. If the room seems disheveled or messy, spend some time to clean up the clutter. Doing these things prior to a treatment session allows positive energy to flow more smoothly throughout the environment.
Placing Reiki symbols in multiple places within the room can also improve your results. Draw the Power symbol on the walls, floor, and ceiling. You should also draw it on your chakras as well as your torso. Then, go to each of the symbols that you have drawn on the walls and meditate on their purpose.
Enjoying The Flow
Reiki energy is so potent that once it is summoned, it will flow throughout the room without requiring guidance or encouragement. In fact, you and your client can hold a conversation about any topic imaginable while the spiritual energy permeates the environment. Having said that, your direct involvement will lead to better results for you and the person you’re treating. Rather than speaking, meditate on the flow. This helps to synchronize your mind, body, and spirit, which allows the energy to reach areas that would otherwise be blocked.
You’ll notice a sensation of joy and inner reconciliation. Not only does that provide valuable healing for you, but it also makes you more effective in treating your client.
The Advantage Of Meditation
Reiki is universal. Its power is unlimited. The limits of its healing are usually caused by the practitioner’s lack of belief, inner turmoil, or an inability to focus. For example, the healer might be dealing with a negative event in her life that is generating unproductive emotions. Those emotions form a blockage and prevent the spiritual life energy from flowing freely. Meditation helps to resolve these issues.
By spending time to meditate before a treatment session, you’ll clear away any existing negativity. Perform Reiki on yourself before a client arrives to create an unrestricted path through which the energy can flow during your healing session.
Achieving Better Results
Many students of Reiki – including Masters – fall into the trap of thinking the spiritual practice is solely about healing others. In reality, much of its value is found in self-treatment. If there are areas within your life that need spiritual healing, address them before treating other people. If you allow them to fester, they will eventually turn into roadblocks that can dramatically hamper your effectiveness while healing others. And that does your clients little good.
Being able to harness Reiki energy gives you the ability to provide others with valuable psychic and physical healing. But, preparation is critical. Prepare the healing room. Meditate to prepare your mind and spirit. You’ll find that each session yields far better results – for you and your client.

Reiki – Working With Spirit to Heal The Body

Saturday, December 26th, 2009

Reiki is spiritually guided Life Force Energy.  Anything that is alive has Life Force Energy flowing through it.

When are energy is low, our body is adversely affected:

When we use Reiki to heal and energize our bodies, we are basically “charging” ourselves with powerful Life Force Energy.  The results of a Reiki treatment are many including:

What makes Reiki so unique is that is it so simple to use yet has such a gentle yet powerful impact on anyone it touches.

Anyone can learn to channel this energy by taking Reiki training from a Reiki master.  Each student will receive a Reiki attunement which is a sacred metaphysical process that has been used for thousands of years.  During the Reiki attunement, several changes take place:

The first degree allows the student to give Reiki to themselves and others.  The second degree allows you to do distance healing with Reiki.  Sending Reiki over distance to anyone anywhere in the world is one of the powerful aspects of Reiki.  You will also be attuned to Reiki symbols in the second degree.

Reiki is not a religion, it’s the spiritual path to freedom, liberation and enlightenment.

By learning Reiki, you will set your feet on a spiritual path that will change your life in a wonderfully profound way.  Once attuned to Reiki, you will have the ability to heal yourself and others.  Reiki can be learned in one day…but you will have it for a lifetime!

Reiki Training

Saturday, December 26th, 2009

‘Reiki’ (pronounced ‘ray-kay’) is an ancient Japanese form of healing therapy that uses hands-on and visualization to bring healing and wholeness. To learn how to use Reiki therapy, you need to be properly trained. Reiki training comprises different degrees or levels of training starting from the Initiate level up to the Master level. Reiki training can only conducted by a Reiki Master. Reiki Training When it comes to being trained in Reiki, there are a few options open to you. You could engage a Reiki Master to tutor you in Reiki techniques, philosophy, beliefs and teachings from the ground up. This would be the most ideal because you get personalized coaching. Alternatively, you could enroll in a Reiki class and take up a pre-set course with other Reiki enthusiasts. The nature and length of the course would vary from one school to another as each has their own methods and uniqueness. This is more formal and structured and you will likely be awarded a certificate for successful completion of the course. The third alternative is to learn on your own by doing your own research although I would not recommend it. There is a ton of information on the Internet and in books about Reiki. This would make the entire process free of charge but you run the risk of getting things wrong, time delays, discipline problems etc. Furthermore by doing it this way, you can only learn it for your own benefit. Technically, you would not be able to impart the sametraining to others. In your Reiki training, you will start from the lowest degree or level and work your way up. In each level you will receive certain forms of training according to the syllabus of the course. These training are called attunements. Some of the attunements you will be taught in the first level are the basic philosophies of Reiki, the Reiki code of conduct, certain skills and techniques likehow to hold your hands to transfer the Reiki energy and how to channel the Reiki energy to yourself and others for healing of sicknesses. Reiki Healer In the second level, you are normally introduced to sacred Reiki symbols, taught what they mean and trained how to use them. These symbols are meant to intensify the Reiki energy that is transferred thus heightening the experience of healing and wholeness. In addition to bringing healing, Reiki can also be used to help you attain calmness, communicate more effectively, give to others, forgive those who have hurt you, enjoy life more and so on. The third level is where you are trained to become a Reiki Master. As a Reiki Master you would be able to carry out training for others who desire to become Reiki practitioners. Needless to say, the attunement at this level is very difficult. Some people take up to a year or more just to be able to become eligible for this level. Reiki Master Reiki training is something you keep with you for life. Once you learn it, you can use it whenever you need to under any circumstances. By doing so you bring health and wholeness to yourself and spread positive energy to others also.

Reiki and Your Unborn Child

Friday, December 25th, 2009

We were living and teaching Reiki in Darjeeling, India, when we decided to try for a child. Straight after conception I placed my hands on Bronwen’s sacral chakra, the area of the ovaries and a tremendous heat was channeled into the womb and it felt as of I was helping the seeds of life. This was the first contact that I had with my child because we soon realised that Bronwen was pregnant. After a 10 year relationship we had imagined that it would take a much longer period before she became pregnant, but we were now both sure that the Reiki energy was helping to speed things up.

I decided to do a daily Reiki session on our baby. It began to feel as if I was a part of the baby and of Bronwen, who had a deeper connection than I did with our new child. When I placed my hands on the womb I immediately sensed a beautiful energy streaming into our baby and I felt overwhelmed with emotions which I never knew I had.

I would love to promote Reiki as a means of helping couples to cope with pregnancy and as a way of supporting husbands to become more involved as this is a special time for sharing and communicating with each other, for all three of you.

Men are often overlooked as being important in the pregnancy – or at least many feel this way. If they were to practise Reiki they would have no excuse not to take part and already show their child love and support.

Hands can be placed on the Mother’s uterus – on the baby – with the intention that energy moves freely to wherever the baby requires it at that moment in its life. The father can also do Reiki on the mother to offer his support for her. And lastly the father can also offer energy to himself. Everyone needs support and love and fathers are no different.

During childbirth I also used Reiki as a technique for releasing tension and stress (when Bronwen allowed me!). I placed my hands on her tailbone and gave energy, when I felt that I couldn’t do much I sent her energy as well. It was wonderful to feel that even this process – the birth – was something that I could be involved and supportive in.

For me it felt like I was more a part of the pregnancy and birth. When our baby finally arrived and we touched each other’s skin it was with recognition as we had already known each other’s energies.
